The Lele Listening and Reading Series is a complete leveled Chinese listening and reading course, consisting of 300 books: 100 red books (beginner level), 100 yellow books (intermediate level), and 100 green books (advanced level). Children build a foundation with the red books, naturally accumulating vocabulary before moving on to the yellow books, then smoothly progressing to the green books, ultimately achieving independent reading. Starting with the red books is the most solid first step.

Recognizing characters does not equal being able to read.Many children who recognize 500 characters still struggle with reading fluently in practice—because reading ability is built through extensive "meaningful listening and reading," not just through vocabulary.
