How to help children continue reading after learning Lele

When children have completed Lele's 300 storybooks and mastered about 1000 commonly used Chinese characters, they have already acquired a natural ability to "fit in". Even if they encounter unfamiliar characters, they can guess the meaning based on the context. This literacy process is like a snowball, the more you read, the faster you learn. We found that many children at this stage can automatically remember and use unfamiliar words flexibly after only 1-3 input opportunities. Especially for those children who have not learned Zhuyin, because they directly remember the shape, sound and meaning of the Chinese characters themselves, they can feel the inner meaning of the Chinese characters better and their reading comprehension ability is significantly improved.

They can quickly grasp the key points of the sentence and gradually master new words in reading, forming a virtuous circle. To further help your child, consider the following:

• Provide more meaningful listening and reading opportunities: Let your children listen to audio books, watch simple Chinese cartoons, or read with them, and explain new words naturally in the process.
