🎙️"My Mother Tongue is My Home🌱"—An Interview with Li Xuan, Chairman of the Taiwanese Language Road Association, on the Path to Language Awakening

🎙️「母語是我家🌱」──專訪台語路理事長力玄的語言覺醒之路

This episode of "LeLe Talk" features a special guest—Li Xuan, Chairman of the Taiwanese Language Road Association. Together, they explore the presence and significance of "mother tongue" in modern Taiwan.

Taiwanese was once a widely used native language in Taiwan, so why has it gradually disappeared from society within just three generations? Why are there so many children born and raised in Taiwan today who cannot speak or even understand Taiwanese?

Li-hsuan's family has three generations that speak Taiwanese, and having grown up in Pingtung, he used to communicate naturally in Taiwanese. However, as he grew older, he was shocked to find that his language skills had deteriorated to the level of a three- or four-year-old child. What caused this decline? And after having his own child, he began to re-examine the significance of his mother tongue to his family.

Regardless of whether Taiwanese is your native language or not, Li-Hsuan encourages you and your family to think together about how to preserve, pass on, and even re-embrace your mother tongue. It's never too late to learn your mother tongue! Now, let's listen to Li-Hsuan's interview and explore our mother tongue!
