Book Series Q&A 5: Elementary Storybook Reading Pen Speed
We have received feedback from several readers who feel that the reading speed of our primary stories is too slow. We write down our opinions here to share with you. Whether users accept it or not depends on different opinions.
(1) Our book series is a "listening and reading" series. We hope that beginners will hear the correct pronunciation and be able to imitate and correctly master the pronunciation, tone and intonation. We feel that by going slower, children can hear more clearly, especially children who have never been exposed to Chinese before. This will make their start easier and easier.
(2) Although our series of books is recommended for children aged 4-8 years old, because it is about reading and not writing, we encourage reading activities as early as possible. The fact is that many parents do start teaching their children when they are 3 years old. They are literate. We believe that the reading pen meets the needs of young children. They often "play" with the reading pen and Lele books, listening, reading and literacy without knowing it. This is often because the reading speed is not fast and they cannot listen. Clear and easy to imitate. This kind of learning method through children's self-study and self-play, "as long as the children like it", is not only worthy of encouragement, but also has unexpected effects.
(3) In addition, the slow and clear speaking speed also hopes that children can give the "written text" a longer "attention" when reading single words, and have a "longer time" for the "matching of sounds and words" โ Enter your head, especially since our primary story has very little text per page.
(4) When children read our book for the first time, they may review the words that appear in the primary story through various text activities on word cards. After this process, when they read "Lele Little Book" again When reading, they will feel that reading aloud by themselves is faster than "listening and reading". In this way, we have achieved our goal. They no longer need to use a reading pen, they can read aloud by themselves, and they can successfully transition to intermediate stories.
(5) Intermediate stories have a lot more text per page, but the number of words has been reduced a lot. When children read for the "first time", they no longer need to read word by word. They only need to read the words they cannot pronounce and practice the pronunciation of the words. Since the sentences on each page are longer and the reading speed is neither slow nor urgent, children can become better familiar with the intonation and can read the entire sentence smoothly.
(6) For advanced stories, children have mastered the normal natural speaking speed, and the reading pen also "focuses" on reading new words that are encountered for the first time (i.e., green words, usually only two or three appear in a story). At this point, the child can basically read the entire story easily and happily by himself.
