What is the biggest difference between the green book and the yellow book?+
The green book uses a different reading methodโwords that have already been learned are no longer marked word by word; only newly introduced words (in green) are specially marked. This is a deliberate design to allow children to practice fluent reading, rather than relying on word-by-word reading.
What happens after you finish reading the green book?+
After completing the three stages and 300 books, the child will have mastered 1,095 commonly used characters and will be able to read Chinese independently. They can then begin reading other Chinese books, bridge books, and even longer chapter books.
Can we start directly from the green book?+
Not recommended. The vocabulary in the green book is built upon the red and yellow books (the first 865 words). Reading the green book directly will lead to frustration due to a large number of unfamiliar words. A gradual approach is the best way.
Is 1,095 characters enough?+
The 1,095 characters cover the most frequently used words in daily reading, enough for children to read most children's books independently. This vocabulary is equivalent to the literacy requirements of a second-grade student in Chinese primary school, providing a very solid foundation.

Do children have to finish reading the red book before they can read the yellow book?+
It is strongly recommended to complete the red book first. The yellow book's vocabulary is built upon the 525 characters in the red book. If children read the yellow book directly, they may encounter too many unfamiliar characters and feel frustrated. A gradual approach is the best way.
Are the difficulty levels of the Yellow Book and the Red Book significantly different?+
The yellow book has longer sentences and more complete stories, but because of the foundation in the red book, children will feel it's a natural progression. The 340 new words are all introduced repeatedly through stories, not through rote memorization.
