Book Series Q&A 7.4 Cooperate with LeLe Book Series "Dynamic Text Activity": Food

Food mentioned here:
It refers to a variety of traditional Chinese "noodles" and many Western "baked snacks" made in ovens, because both types of things are produced by dough, and children like to play with dough, and they are combined with words.

In every process below, children are involved as much as possible (including card making)

1 Preparation of ingredients (cooperate with real food, do it a few times and children will recognize these words)
After the ingredients are prepared, everything has a Chinese name card next to the ingredients. For example: flour, water, salt, butter, soy sauce, sugar, etc. Or you can hold up the card and ask the child to give you the actual object.

2. Take out the necessary props (some of them are "special words". If you often do food activities, the children will have the opportunity to see these words more)
You can also put the name cards of the props next to them, such as: large bowl, spoon, teaspoon, stirrer, stick, measuring cup - etc. In the same way, you can hold up the card and let the children bring the props.

3. Common words and terms used in production steps

Introduce commonly used words and phrases in the production steps: (You can make long sentence cards because there are only a few)

first/first/first/second/third---/then/then/last--and so on

Put ---add---/pour---into---/put---in/
Use --- stir/knead with hands/knead with hands/use ---roll/use small molds---cut----etc.
Roll out/spread---/roll--/wrap---etc.

4. Phrases to complete the final step of changing from “raw food to cooked food”
(The steps for preparing different foods are also different, so it is easier to find. You can make one of these standard phrases for changing from raw food to cooked food according to the food.)

Finally, it needs to be baked in the oven/boiled in water/fried in oil----etc.
How much time does it take, hours/minutes/---
float---/become---color/
Use a heat probe to measure the temperature/how much to preheat? /boil water/smoke/----/hot, ice cold, cold, warm/

5. Eat the "finished product" (each type of words below can be made into a card)
Color words: brown, burnt yellow, gold,
Taste words: sweet, sour, bitter and spicy
Words for how it tastes: soft, hard, crisp, sour, sticky, Q,
Smell words: fragrant, smelly, strange smell, mint smell, fishy,
Words to express your likes/dislikes: super delicious, unpleasant, too sweet, I ate a lot and dare not eat----

6. Write down the process and results
This part of combining words with words can be completed by adults and children together.
If your children know Chinese Pinyin, they can work together to type on the computer to complete the process and results of making delicious food.
If the child does not know Chinese pinyin or phonetic symbols, adults can talk to the child while typing out the text to complete the manuscript, and then encourage the child to read it once. They can also add small illustrations and hang them in the kitchen so that they can cook the same delicacy next time. Read it once first and you will know all the above steps.

Our book series has food-themed stories covering many food names. In the intermediate-level story food theme, there are two stories about the food preparation process, which contain commonly used step terms.
